A Brief History Of Fashion

Have you ever wondered why most of us women are really into clothing? Like, why we love ‘Fashion‘? We women are actually have that addiction in trendy clothing and our own fashion. Like we can not live without first getting our own style of fashion. Of course we wanted to look astonishing. Like if possible, we want our friends, our neighbor or anyone dumbfounded and speechless as we stepped on the floor to ramp. The negative side there, lifting eyebrows are from people who do not mind fashion.

When was the fashion started? There was no clear pattern of when it started, but based on research there are innumerable documentation of every fashion era. This was carefully collected for the purpose of knowing the history of fashion.

Fashion was actually intended to showcase the designs, colors, and its material.

The term fashion was originally used way back in 1250-1300 from Middle English word ‘facioun’ which mean, shape or manner. It was also used in Old French ‘faceon’ which mean doing, company. The term is not that in used until the start of 1800 (the term was used over time up to present). This era was the time that clothing is not anymore a design or materials, it is a fashion that every women should spend time with as it represent of their selves. It is a form of expression. Either their own style or telling the world that they know what is trendy.

Below is the timeline of fashion from different era and different countries. You may noticed that the illustration are women. It is so, because women are the leader of fashion.

Let’s start from…

Egyptian Fashion

Egyptians Fashion is very simple. No hard work of sewing is needed for their clothing. As you can see, the man is wearing a short loincloth called Shenti and the women are wearing a linen gown with a strap. This linen gown is called Kalasiris. There was no big changes in Egyptians Fashion from old kingdom to their new kingdom.

Greek Fashion

Chlamys

Greek fashion has 4 types of clothes. The Chiton, lighter linen that was worn by both sexes and all ages, classified into two, Doric (sleeveless, usually made of linen to consist two pieces of cloth) and Ionic ( formed from a single rectangular piece of fabric); Peplus; Himation; and Chlamys, a single rectangular piece of clothing worn only by men. This clothing is convenient for Greek traveler, horsemen and soldier.

Ancient Rome Fashion

The Ancient Rome fashion usually is a short-sleeved, knee-length tunic for men and boys. And long-sleeved for women and girls. On formal occasion, men wore a toga, a one piece woolen garment that could  wrapped differently around body. Women on the other hand, wore a woolen mantle. This woolen mantle is a long-sleeved, voluminous garment that hung to midstep, this type of clothing is called palla, over a stola.

Arab Fashion

Islam people don’t usually mind about fashion. What matters to them is they look decent, formal, and presentable. As it is a tradition not to look excellent in what they wore. The reason behind is the religion. Receiving compliments or judgement is a sin. That is the main reason why some Arab women cover their whole body including their faces, because women are used to make their selves look good and being beautiful and pretty sometimes is not a good advantage for women in Islam. It may look stranger for other people but once a woman wore that type of style, she is responsible for continuing it until her death.

I would like to ask a forgiveness for our Islam brother and sister if I couldn’t help but notice their clothing. As it attracted me and find it in style fashion. It maybe very simple but the way they carried it makes it look attractive and a fashion as well.

 Classic Fashion Style

There are some of us who get confused of vintage style and classic style fashion. The similarities were, it came from old era and yet it is still adorable. Vintage style are clothing from 1920s to 1980. While a classic fashion style has no clear sign of when it started, though, I found a transcript that says 1750 is the era of classical fashion. Whenever it started, what makes classical fashion stand out is its timeless look, beautiful yet simple cuts in clothing. You will love too its fine natural fabrics.

So, why we love fashion

MIX and MATCH

Whatever it looks like, different design of clothes made us think of how we wanted it to look with our own style. You have been standing in the mirror for long hours mixing and matching the old or the new bought clothes. You look for the shoes that matches it. You borrowed makeup from your siblings, your cousins, and maybe the long time keep makeup by your mother. Because she knows that you use her makeup more than she use  it. It’s not a good excuse. But,  we can’t help it. Our own style matter.

BECAUSE THIS IS US

Like what I have said earlier, fashion is the best ways to express our style! You may call it bold statement of yourself, but being stylish with your fashion is what makes you difference, and stand out. Have you ever heard a friend who had this out of style fashion but admired by some people who also happened that their style turned into trendy? I’ll call it as her style signature. There were different fashionista: Classic Fashionista, the elegance fashionista; Vintage Style Fashionista, this fashionista follows fashion from ’70s. I’ll insert a fashion drama rich in vintage fashion style, ‘Fashion ’70s’. This drama will give you more ideas about vintage style; Sophisticated Fashionista, most of the sophisticated fashionista I’ve known has their dressmaker. If they don’t have, they tend to be unique. They have their taste of fashion. A fashion that makes them look elegance, and sophisticated. These are the types of fashionista to name a few.
